I’m going to talk about the time my best friend persuaded me to break up with my girlfriend, and I was really glad I listened to him. If I remember correctly, it happened around 3 years ago when I was still a second-year student at university. Back then, I had a girlfriend, and we had been dating for over a year. However, it wasn’t exactly a healthy relationship, because she was quite cold and distant, and I often felt like I was the one to blame whenever we had a conflict.

I used to pour my heart out to my best friend, so he knew almost everything about my love life.

One day, during a heart-to-heart, he advised me to end the relationship because he noticed how negative and drained I had become since I started seeing her. He told me I deserved someone more caring and thoughtful, and that staying in that relationship would only make me miserable.

After about a week of thinking long and hard, I finally took his advice and decided to rip the band-aid off by breaking up with her. It definitely wasn’t easy, and for a while, I was so down that I even thought about getting back together. Luckily, my best friend was always there to cheer me up and give me pep talk, which helped me get back on my feet. Now looking back, I’m truly grateful that he persuaded me to do that—if it hadn’t been for him, I might have wasted even more time in toxic relationships.
